Laser Vision Correction - LASIK
If you are tired of wearing glasses or contact lenses, laser vision correction may be a choice for you.
Good Laser Vision Correction candidates are:
LASIK is the most commonly practiced procedure in laser vision correction. The surgeon first cuts a flap in the cornea with a blade or laser, and then lifts it and uses a computer-guided excimer laser to remove calculated amounts of tissue from the inside layers of the cornea. Afterwards, the flap is put back and the eye heals quickly.
Custom LASIKA recent advance in LASIK surgery is the use of Wavefront technology, which creates a detailed map of the eye. This helps the surgeon make even more precise correction to vision. Wavefront analysis identifies visual imperfections, which are lower order aberrations (conventionally corrected with glasses or contacts) and higher-order aberrations. With conventional LASIK, only lower-order aberrations (such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism) could be measured and treated. Higher-order aberrations have a significant impact on vision and have been linked to glare and halos. Treatment of higher-order aberrations allows for the highest quality visual potential (i.e., possibly achieving better than 20/20 vision and significantly less night vision disturbance and halos). All of these visual imperfections are then displayed on a Wavefront map. This information is also electronically transferred to the laser and computer-matched to the eye's position.
With Bladeless LASIK (Intralase LASIK), the surgeon uses a laser to create the corneal flap. This technology enables the surgeon the ability to customize the corneal flap for every individual patient. This technology may now make it possible to treat those who were previously dismissed as non candidates due to thin corneas. Studies have shown the incidence of dry eye symptoms may be reduced with Bladeless LASIK.
This is a truly customized procedure from beginning to end:
